The Modern Wisdom School

ascend to light, descending

I became a member of a wisdom school before I knew what one was. During an introductory workshop, a teacher responded to my question while simultaneously creating a golden triangular light between us. Needless to say, I was intrigued enough to join his intense training program, and was soon involved with a group of interesting individuals exploring life, spirituality, and science in an absorbing new way. I began to explore the history, structure, and methodology of wisdom schools.

What is a Wisdom School?
The wisdom school process transforms an individual into an enlightened being. "Enlightened" has many different meanings; etymologically it means to illumine. The archaic meaning is derived from spiritual initiates’ discovery of their inner light or wisdom. Enlightenment should not be confused with its gifts: clairvoyance, healing abilities, prophecy, and even magic. True enlightenment is a multifaceted understanding of the ultimate questions of life: why are we here, and what is our purpose? A serious seeker will settle for nothing less than that truth.

Wisdom schools often introduce alternative states of being. Our school uses meditation, not mind-altering drugs, to uncover higher realms. As we integrate this understanding into our consciousness, our interactions within the world also change.

Adventures with Reality
A Ph.D. candidate wanted to know who I was. “Are you sure?” I asked. Evidently, my answer intrigued him, and he persisted. Late one night we meditated together. Peter was tired, and his lowered resistance increased his potential to feel the transforming energies most people are conditioned to ignore. Suddenly, he sat up, alert and conscious.

“What happened?” I asked. Peter seemed unable to explain. “I’ll tell you what happened to me and that might help. As we looked at each other, your face distorted, and then you morphed into other people. There were streaks of light in the room, and I could not see anything except you.” “When I looked at your face, you changed into different people,” he replied. “At first this was fun and exciting, but then you turned into my best friend’s mother.” Peter was shocked.

These shocks to normal perception frequently hook people into beginning the wisdom school process. Awareness of a reality beyond “normal” creates an intensely personal mystery to explore. To resolve this experience, seekers learn to expand their personal understanding of reality, thereby initiating an irreversible spiritual quest.

Obstacles and Allies Along the Way
Modern wisdom school members are willing to explore themselves and their place in the universe. The ongoing student/teacher relationship provides the foundation of the work by illuminating obstacles on the spiritual path.

A common barrier to truth is the self-imposed limitations of personality and ego. By uncovering layers of conditioning, the teacher assists in restructuring the ego into a complete and whole state. Only then may the ego be transcended and the inner essence revealed.

Most individuals find that cultural, educational, and parental conditioning limits their perception. Our group assists the initiate in identifying unnecessary ego structures, attachments, and belief systems. Only then may the perception of truth be achieved.

The Ultimate Aim
With the understanding of reality as it is, the wisdom schools teach us how to consciously create soul. Then the individual consciousness and its experiences remain after the death of the physical body. The created soul holds purpose from lifetime to lifetime. With the knowledge of the soul, the initiate finds deeper meaning within daily activities. The “fixed” soul relates all actions, relationships, and events to a greater purpose; the student knows true identity.

Beyond Individual Enlightenment
Initially the wisdom school involves individual work, however many graduates join a working spiritual group comprised of enlightened members. A working group spends time, energy, and effort to achieve common goals which range from creating tools that enrich the group and society, to preserving nature and exploring the cosmos. A working group serves not only its members, but also the world.

Properly formed, a working group creates a single consciousness that is far greater than any individual. Cultivating a team from different ethnic, cultural, and religious traditions, the group crosses boundaries to find fundamental truths. Eventually the group forms a single body with more clarity and insight. The whole truly becomes greater than the sum of its parts.

A wisdom group draws archetypal energies into a single collective mind; this model creates patterns of transforming energies within the world. While this work may challenge some belief systems, benevolent actions to enhance consciousness have always been a part of our civilizations. The inner workings of this spiritual group are beyond intellectual description; truly, the mysteries may only be experienced.
